Renewable Energy Records Its FastestGrowth Ever: What It Means for Pakistan

The global transition towards clean energy has reached another major milestone. New data from
the International Renewable Energy Agency, commonly known as IRENA, shows that
renewable electricity generation recorded its fastest growth to date in 2024.
Solar, wind, hydropower and other renewable sources are no longer playing a minor role in the
global energy system. They are becoming central to how countries generate electricity,
strengthen energy security and reduce their exposure to unpredictable fossil-fuel prices.
For Pakistan, where households and businesses continue to face rising electricity costs and
concerns about energy reliability, this global shift highlights the growing importance of solar
power and other renewable technologies.
