Asia Produced the Most Renewable Electricity

Asia remained the world’s largest producer of renewable electricity during 2024. The region
generated approximately 4,589 terawatt-hours of renewable electricity, representing an annual
increase of 14.3%.
Strong growth was recorded across several renewable technologies, particularly solar and wind
power. This reflects the large-scale investment being made across Asian markets to expand clean
electricity generation and reduce reliance on imported fuels.
Europe generated approximately 1,758 terawatt-hours of renewable electricity, while North
America produced around 1,535 terawatt-hours. South America generated approximately 1,047
terawatt-hours, and Eurasia produced around 411 terawatt-hours.
Africa generated approximately 227 terawatt-hours, while Oceania produced around 138
terawatt-hours. Central America and the Caribbean generated approximately 55 terawatt-hours.
The Middle East recorded one of the highest regional growth rates, with renewable electricity
generation increasing by approximately 17.3%. However, its total renewable generation
remained smaller than that of several other regions.
These figures show that renewable energy growth is taking place across nearly every part of the
world, although the speed and scale of development continue to vary between regions.
